The HIV epidemic has resulted in millions of deaths in Africa. Taboos and myths associated with HIV and AIDS need to be dispelled with education. Education about a virus with no cure is a means to prevention and key to survival of future generations. Grassroot Soccer is a nonprofit organization which provides African girls and boys with the skills and support to live HIV free. Grassroot Soccer uses the power of soccer to connect with African youth. Through the Grassroot Soccer curriculum, adolescents are given life-saving information that enables these young people to become valuable peer educators and role models in their own communities. Education can also be a powerful tool for eliminating discrimination against people infected with HIV and AIDS. Grassroot Soccer is dedicated to creating awareness and compassion. Together with their trained coaches, professional soccer players and volunteers, Grassroot Soccer is committed to educating children in the hope that future generations will be able to live HIV free lives.
